A leopard sighting on the Infosys campus in Mysuru, Karnataka, led to a work-from-home order for employees and a suspension of training programs for around 4,000 trainees on December 31. According to a report from Money Control, the wild animal was spotted early in the morning on CCTV footage around 2 AM, triggering an immediate response from the company’s security and the forest department.

The human resources department of Infosys sent an internal communication to staff, advising them to stay home for the day. The message read, “Dear Infoscion, a wild animal has been seen on the Mysuru DC campus today. Efforts are underway to ensure campus safety in collaboration with the task force.” The company also instructed the security team to restrict access to the campus, emphasizing the need to avoid entering the premises on that day.

The forest department confirmed the leopard sighting and immediately dispatched a team to investigate the area. Deputy Conservator of Forests (Wildlife), IB Prabhu Gowda, stated, “The leopard was seen on CCTV around 2 AM. Our team reached the location around 4 AM and immediately began a combing operation.” Despite their efforts, the animal was not located by the time of the report.

In addition to the employees, around 4,000 trainees at the Infosys Global Education Centre in Mysuru were advised to remain indoors. All training programs, assessments, and inductions were postponed for the day. The trainees were instructed to stay in their hostel rooms and use the time for self-study while the situation was being handled.

This isn’t the first time that a leopard has been spotted at the Infosys Mysuru campus. A similar incident occurred back in 2011 when a leopard was seen wandering around the premises. The campus is located near the Hebbal Industrial Area and is adjacent to a reserve forest, which is home to a variety of wildlife, including leopards. Wildlife experts believe the leopard may have strayed from the forest in search of food.

The incident raised concerns about the safety of both employees and wildlife, with experts suggesting better precautionary measures and wildlife management strategies. As of now, Infosys has assured its staff and trainees that safety remains a top priority, and the search operation continues to ensure the campus is secure.

For now, the company continues to monitor the situation closely, with plans to resume normal operations once it is safe to do so.
