Anu Dhankar, a 19-year-old woman dubbed “Lady Don” by her associates, has been arrested in Uttar Pradesh while attempting to flee to Nepal. She is accused of leading 26-year-old Aman Joon to a deadly ambush at a Burger King in Delhi back in June, where he was shot by a gang in what police believe was a revenge killing related to a previous murder.

Authorities apprehended Dhankar on Friday as she was trying to cross the border into Nepal. The arrest came after a detailed investigation into the events surrounding Joon’s murder, which was captured on CCTV footage. The footage showed Joon entering the Burger King outlet in Rajouri Garden, where Dhankar was already seated. Shortly after, a group of men entered and opened fire, killing Joon. Witnesses reported that Dhankar fled the scene, allegedly taking Joon’s phone and wallet with her.

Investigators revealed that the motive for the murder was rooted in a 2020 murder case in Haryana. Fugitive gangster Himanshu Bhau, who is believed to be in Portugal, claimed responsibility for the attack through a social media post, stating that Joon was involved in the murder of his associate, Shakti Dada, and that the shooting was an act of revenge.

Dhankar, during police questioning, claimed that Bhau had promised her a luxurious life in America, which she believed motivated her involvement in the deadly plot. Following Joon’s murder, she reportedly returned to her rented accommodation in Mukherjee Nagar to collect her belongings and subsequently traveled to various locations, including Chandigarh, Amritsar, Katra, and Haridwar, before settling in Kota, Rajasthan.

For several months, she allegedly received financial support from Bhau. On October 22, she was instructed to relocate once more as the case had begun to fade from public attention. Police sources indicated that she was on her way to America via a route through Nepal and Dubai when she was detained.

Dhankar’s arrest underscores the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to dismantle gang operations and bring justice for victims of gang-related violence. The investigation continues as authorities pursue leads on Bhau’s whereabouts and his broader criminal network.
