In a heartbreaking incident, an Indian family of four was killed in a fire that broke out in their flat in Kuwait City late Friday night. The fire, caused by a short circuit in the air conditioner, claimed the lives of Mathews Mulackal, his wife Lini Abraham, and their two children, just hours after they had returned from a vacation in Kerala.
The tragedy struck at around 8 PM local time in their second-floor apartment located in the Abbasiya area. The family had arrived back in Kuwait around 4 PM the same day, following their trip to Kerala. According to reports, Mathews Mulackal was employed at Reuters, while his wife Lini worked as a staff nurse at Adan Hospital in Al Ahmadi Governorate. Their children were students at Bhavans School in Kuwait.
The Indian Embassy in Kuwait has expressed its deep condolences and assured that it is working closely with the family in Kerala to facilitate the early repatriation of the deceased. The embassy’s efforts include ensuring that the bodies are returned to their homeland promptly.
This tragic incident follows a recent devastating fire that resulted in the deaths of 45 Indians in a labor accommodation last month. Major General Khaled Fahd, acting head of the General Fire Force, confirmed that the fire was controlled successfully by their teams.
In a statement on social media platform X, the Indian Embassy in Kuwait extended its sympathies: “Embassy @indembkwt expresses its deepest condolences on the tragic demise of Mr. Mathews Mulackal, his wife, and two children due to the fire in their flat in Abbasiya last night. The Embassy is in touch with his family and will ensure the early repatriation of their mortal remains.”
The family’s sudden death has left their relatives and community in Kerala in shock and mourning. The Indian expatriate community in Kuwait is also grappling with the loss and seeking support during this difficult time.
