Kejriwal Requests Urgent Meeting with Amit Shah Over Law and Order Concerns in Delhi

Arvind Kejriwal, the national convener of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), has written to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, seeking an urgent meeting to discuss the “dire” law and order situation in Delhi. In his letter dated December 14, Kejriwal expressed grave concerns over the rise in crime rates, including shootings, murders, stabbings, and kidnappings, which he believes have left the citizens of the national capital living in fear.

Kejriwal highlighted the surge in criminal activities, pointing out that in the last six months, Delhi has witnessed over 300 bomb threat calls targeting schools and colleges, in addition to threats against hospitals, airports, and malls. The AAP leader also emphasized that the city’s law and order has deteriorated under the current governance, with Delhi being referred to as the “Rape Capital,” “Drug Capital,” and “Gangster Capital.” Kejriwal attributed this crisis to the failure of the law enforcement system, asserting that the central government, under whose jurisdiction the Delhi Police operates, should take responsibility.

“The central government is responsible for maintaining law and order in the Union Territory of Delhi. This cannot be ignored any longer. The situation is critical, and immediate intervention is required,” Kejriwal stated in his letter, urging Amit Shah to take swift action and restore order in the capital.

In recent months, the issue of law and order has been a major talking point in Delhi, particularly with the assembly elections approaching. Analysts suggest that Kejriwal’s move to raise the issue of crime with the central government is part of AAP’s broader strategy to turn it into a central election issue and hold the BJP-led government accountable.

Kejriwal also called for a bipartisan approach to addressing the issue, urging political leaders to rise above party politics in order to tackle crime effectively. “We must work together to restore peace and security in our capital city,” he added.

The BJP, however, has responded by accusing Kejriwal of politicizing crime issues for electoral gains. Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva criticized Kejriwal for his handling of governance over the past decade, claiming that the AAP-led government and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) had failed in multiple areas, including pollution control, sanitation, and public services.

Sachdeva also pointed out that Delhi ranks among the most polluted capitals in the world and claimed that the AAP government had contributed to the city’s civic failures. In a sharp counter, he suggested a debate on these issues, challenging Kejriwal to face the facts.

As the political battle heats up in the lead-up to the elections, the law and order situation in Delhi is expected to remain a key issue for both parties, with each side pointing fingers at the other over responsibility for the city’s safety and security.
