In the midst of a heated controversy surrounding an alleged land scam by the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA), the Karnataka government has transferred Mysuru Deputy Commissioner K V Rajendra. This move comes after senior BJP leader R Ashoka accused Rajendra of repeatedly highlighting improper allotment of alternative sites to land losers under a “50:50 ratio” scheme.
Rajendra was one of 21 IAS officers reshuffled in a recent bureaucratic shake-up. He has been reassigned as the Director of Tourism in Bengaluru, with G Lakshmikanth Reddy, currently the Managing Director of Karnataka Urban Infrastructure Development and Finance Corporation (KUIDFC), Bengaluru, taking over as the new Mysuru Deputy Commissioner.
Ashoka, the Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Assembly, claimed that Rajendra had written multiple letters to MUDA, questioning the allotment process and seeking details, but received no response. The controversy intensified when Chief Minister Siddaramaiah rejected the BJP’s demand for a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the alleged irregularities, which purportedly involved his wife, Parvathi.
The BJP has alleged that Parvathi was allotted alternative sites in an upmarket area of Mysuru, with higher property value compared to the original location of her acquired land. They claim the scheme, which compensates land losers with 50 percent of developed land for undeveloped land acquired for residential layouts, was misused. The opposition party has called for Siddaramaiah’s resignation, alleging that irregularities amounting to ₹4,000 crore had occurred in the distribution of sites.
According to BJP leaders, approximately 4,500-5,000 sites were allotted by MUDA in violation of norms. The MUDA had granted plots to Parvathi in exchange for over three acres of her land, where a residential layout was subsequently developed.
Despite the mounting allegations and calls for a thorough investigation, Siddaramaiah has firmly denied any wrongdoing and dismissed the need for a CBI probe. As the controversy continues to unfold, the transfer of K V Rajendra and the appointment of G Lakshmikanth Reddy as the new Deputy Commissioner are seen as significant developments in the ongoing saga.
