In a valiant display of bravery, Head Constable Bashir Ahmed of the Jammu and Kashmir Police shot dead a Pakistani terrorist during a fierce encounter in the Kathua district last night. Tragically, the officer succumbed to his injuries shortly after the incident. The operation, which began yesterday, is still ongoing as security forces continue to neutralize any remaining terrorists in the area.
The clash erupted in the village of Kog (Mandli) when police received intelligence about three to four terrorists hiding in the vicinity. As a joint security team approached the village, they came under heavy fire from the terrorists, leading to a fierce gun battle. During the exchange, Head Constable Ahmed sustained critical injuries but managed to take down one terrorist before ultimately succumbing to his wounds.
Additional Director General of Police for the Jammu zone, Anand Jain, confirmed the details in a statement on X, expressing his condolences and highlighting the sacrifice made by Ahmed in the line of duty. “In the ongoing operation in village Kog (Mandli), Kathua Police HC Bashir Ahmed made the ultimate sacrifice, heroically taking down a terrorist. While he succumbed to his injuries, the other officers, including Deputy SP Sukhbir and ASI Niaz, are stable,” Jain stated.
Two additional police officers were injured in the encounter but are reported to be in stable condition. The area has been cordoned off as police continue their efforts to locate and neutralize the remaining terrorists.
This operation takes place against the backdrop of the Union Territory’s first Assembly elections since its special status was revoked in 2019. Authorities have reiterated their commitment to combatting terrorism and ensuring the safety of citizens as the electoral process unfolds.
The courage and sacrifice of Head Constable Bashir Ahmed have drawn recognition and respect from both the public and his fellow officers, reinforcing the dedication of Jammu and Kashmir’s security forces in the face of ongoing threats.
