India on Saturday strongly refuted Pakistan’s claims that its air force destroyed the Indian S-400 air defence system in Adampur, labelling the allegations as part of a “malicious misinformation campaign.” The rejection came during a press briefing jointly addressed by Wing Commander Vyomika Singh and Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri.
Wing Commander Singh stated, “Pakistan has also attempted to execute a continued malicious misinformation campaign, with claims of destruction of the Indian S-400 system, destruction of airfields at Surat and Sirsa. India unequivocally rejects these false claims being spread by Pakistan.”
To counter the narrative, Singh presented time-stamped images of the Indian Air Force bases in Sirsa and Suratgarh, which appeared undamaged, directly contradicting claims made by Pakistan’s state-run media.
Foreign Secretary Misri also criticised Islamabad for disseminating falsehoods. “Pakistani claims about the activities that they have undertaken continue to be heavy on lies, misinformation, and propaganda. These are peddled by the Pakistani State Agencies,” he said, dismissing claims of Indian military infrastructure being destroyed as “completely false.”
The controversy escalated after Pakistan’s state broadcaster PTV reported that the country’s air force had destroyed India’s S-400 air defence system using hypersonic missiles. These reports were amplified by Chinese state media outlets, including Xinhua and Global Times, which claimed that Pakistan’s JF-17 Thunder jets were involved in the operation.
India has clarified that not only does the S-400 system at Adampur remain intact, but there is also no evidence of damage to any major military installations alleged by Pakistan.
The press briefing highlighted the Indian government’s concern over the deliberate spread of false information in an already tense environment following recent hostilities between the two nations. Both Singh and Misri reaffirmed India’s commitment to transparency and factual reporting while warning against the dangers of disinformation in escalating conflict.
