The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an ‘orange’ alert for Kerala and Tamil Nadu, signaling the possibility of heavy rainfall in these regions. Anticipating a weather spell lasting for the next three days, the forecast warns of significant downpours and thunderstorms across Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Andhra Pradesh.
The IMD highlighted the likelihood of heavy to very heavy rainfall in several districts of Kerala and Mahe, lasting from November 21st to 23rd, according to their recent weather updates. Similarly, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal are poised to experience isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall on November 21st and 22nd, impacting over 10 districts due to fluctuating weather patterns.
The regional meteorological center in Chennai forecasts intermittent heavy rainfall in multiple districts of Tamil Nadu over the next three days. Areas such as Kanyakumari, Tirunelveli, Tenkasi, Ramanathapuram, Thoothukudi, Theni, and several others are expected to witness heavy to very heavy rainfall, posing potential challenges of waterlogging and local disruptions.
Moreover, the forecast for Wednesday and Thursday predicts thunderstorms and lightning accompanying light to moderate rainfall in various parts of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Tirupur, and Dindigul districts.
In Andhra Pradesh, the IMD anticipates heavy rainfall coupled with thunderstorms across South Coastal Andhra Pradesh (SCAP), Rayalaseema, and parts of North Coastal Andhra Pradesh (NCAP) and Yanam. This weather pattern is expected to persist for three days starting from Tuesday, attributed to weather systems including a trough in the Comorin area and upper air cyclonic circulations.
Cloudy conditions prevailed across various regions of Andhra Pradesh on Tuesday, signaling the onset of impending rainfall. These forecasts, while indicating much-needed precipitation, raise concerns of potential disruptions and emphasize preparedness measures in these regions facing the anticipated downpours.
