Abhey Singh, popularly known as ‘IIT Baba’, has landed in legal trouble after police in Jaipur filed a case against him for allegedly carrying ‘ganja’ (marijuana). However, the self-styled seer dismissed the seizure, claiming it was merely “prasad” – a religious offering.
Despite the case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, IIT Baba evaded arrest as the quantity of the narcotic substance found in his possession was small.
Police Investigation and IIT Baba’s Response
According to the police, they were led to Singh’s hotel—Riddhi Siddhi Park Classic Hotel—after receiving information that he had made a suicidal statement on social media. Upon questioning him, Singh reportedly took out a packet of ganja from his pocket and admitted to consuming it.
The police seized 1.50 grams of ganja on the spot and registered a case under the NDPS Act. However, Singh refuted the police’s claim of a suicide attempt, alleging that officers visited his hotel under false pretenses.
“They came here under the pretext of some bizarre case, claiming I was going to die by suicide. But they started doing something else entirely,” he told reporters.
In a viral video, he further questioned the legality of the action against him, pointing out that many seers openly consumed ganja during the Maha Kumbh festival. “If it’s illegal, will they arrest all the seers who had it in front of so many people during Maha Kumbh?” he asked.
Previous Controversy
This is not the first time IIT Baba has made headlines. Recently, he claimed he was assaulted during a news debate on a private TV channel in Noida. Following the alleged incident, he staged a protest outside the police outpost in Sector 126 but later withdrew it after discussions with the authorities.
