In a sorrowful turn of events, Shaik Muzammil Ahmed, a 25-year-old Indian student hailing from Hyderabad, tragically passed away from cardiac arrest while pursuing his Masters in IT at Conestoga College, Waterloo Campus in Kitchener City, Ontario, Canada. The heartbreaking news has prompted his family to appeal to External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar for assistance in repatriating Ahmed’s remains back to his hometown.
Amjad Ullah Khan, a prominent leader of the Telangana-based political party, Majlis Bachao Tehreek (MBT), took to social media to share the unfortunate incident. According to Khan, Ahmed had been battling a fever for the past week, but the situation took a devastating turn when his family received the distressing news of his sudden demise due to cardiac arrest.
Expressing the family’s shock and grief, Khan posted a letter on behalf of Ahmed’s relatives, urgently requesting Minister Jaishankar to facilitate the return of Ahmed’s mortal remains to Hyderabad. In the plea, the family emphasized their profound anguish and appealed for swift assistance from the Indian authorities stationed in Canada.
Khan’s social media post read, “One Shaik Muzammil Ahmed, aged 25, from Hyderabad, Telangana State, pursuing Masters in IT from Conestoga College, Waterloo Campus in Kitchener City, Ontario, Canada since December 2022 was suffering from fever for the last one week, but his family received a call from his friend that he died due to cardiac arrest today.”
He further added, “On hearing this news, his parents and the entire family are in a state of shock and have requested you to kindly ask @HCI_Ottawa & @TorontoCGI to send his mortal remains back to Hyderabad as soon as possible.”
This tragic incident comes in the wake of heightened concerns over the safety and well-being of Indian students studying abroad. Earlier, Khan had raised alarm over the brutal attack on another Indian student, Syed Mazahir Ali, in Chicago. Disturbing videos circulated on social media depicted Ali bleeding profusely as he recounted the harrowing assault.
In response to such distressing occurrences, the Indian Consulate in Chicago assured of extending full support to the victim’s family and pledged to stay in close communication with them to provide necessary assistance.
As the Indian community mourns the untimely loss of Shaik Muzammil Ahmed, efforts are underway to expedite the repatriation process and offer solace to his grieving loved ones during this difficult time.
