In the wake of relentless rainfall in several parts of Tamil Nadu, educational authorities in Cuddalore, Mayiladuthurai, and Villupuram districts have taken precautionary measures by declaring school holidays. The Union Territory of Puducherry has also joined in, announcing a rain holiday for schools and colleges today.
This decision is a response to the meteorological department’s warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall anticipated in Chengalpattu, Kancheepuram, Villupuram, Cuddalore districts, and Puducherry on November 14. The forecast attributes these weather conditions to an upper air cyclonic circulation, indicating the likely formation of a low-pressure area in the southeast Bay of Bengal, as stated by the Meteorological Department.
Safety concerns have intensified with the department cautioning about squally weather featuring wind speeds of up to 55 kmph. The North East Monsoon holds significant importance for Tamil Nadu in meeting its drinking water and irrigation requirements. Notably, the state has faced a rainfall deficit of 17% compared to the normal levels until last week.
As authorities prioritize the safety of residents amid adverse weather conditions, the declaration of holidays reflects a proactive approach. Residents are urged to stay updated on weather advisories and take necessary precautions. The timely response by educational and administrative bodies underscores the collective effort to ensure the well-being of the communities affected by the inclement weather.
