The scenic destination, celebrated for its snow-covered vistas, witnessed contrasting sentiments among visitors. While many expressed sheer delight at the stunning scenery, one tourist highlighted the challenges posed by the snow-covered roads, causing temporary blockages and inconveniences for movement.
Renowned for its natural beauty during the snowfall season and the vibrant season of lupine flowers from mid-June to July’s end, Gulmarg serves as a canvas for creative expressions through intricate snow sculptures during this period.
The region’s popularity extends beyond its aesthetic allure; Gulmarg stands tall as a hub for winter sports enthusiasts, offering opportunities for skiing and other thrilling activities against the stunning snowy backdrop.
Adding to its charm, Gulmarg welcomed the world’s largest igloo cafe in February 2022, swiftly becoming a favored spot for tourists. Complementing this marvel, a glass igloo restaurant opened its doors, elevating the visitor experience.
Enriched with landmarks like St. Mary’s Church, Maharaja Palace, Maharani Temple, and the renowned Gulmarg Gondola, the region boasts a blend of natural splendor and cultural heritage, inviting travelers to explore its diverse offerings.
The recent snowfall not only transformed Gulmarg but also affected temperatures across the region. The India Meteorological Department’s recordings highlighted the chilly conditions: -5.8 degrees Celsius in Gulmarg, 0.2 degrees Celsius in Pahalgam, 0.6 degrees Celsius in Banihal, and 8.8 degrees Celsius in Jammu.
Srinagar, too, experienced a temperature rise from the bone-chilling minus 3.5 degrees Celsius, recorded on a previous Friday morning, to a more bearable 1.4 degrees Celsius on Sunday.
