Gujarat is experiencing widespread rainfall and is expected to continue under a wet spell until July 3, following the activation of a cyclonic circulation over south Gujarat, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
The IMD has issued a ‘yellow alert’ for south Gujarat, indicating the likelihood of heavy showers on Saturday. The cyclonic circulation, initially active over central Gujarat, has now shifted southwards, influencing weather patterns across the region.
“Gujarat is very likely to receive an active wet spell during the next five days due to the cyclonic circulation over south Gujarat and adjoining areas,” stated the IMD in a release.
The forecast anticipates heavy rainfall at isolated places in districts such as Valsad and Navsari, including the Union Territory of Daman and Dadra Nagar Haveli on Saturday. Similar weather conditions are expected on Sunday in Gandhinagar, Kheda, Ahmedabad, Anand, Navsari, Valsad, and the aforementioned Union Territory.
With the southwest monsoon making further advances into the state, several parts of Gujarat have already witnessed light to moderate rainfall. According to data from the State Emergency Operations Centre (SEOC), 70 talukas across the state received rainfall ranging from 8 mm to 72 mm during a 12-hour period.
Notably, Palsana taluka in Surat district recorded the highest rainfall of 72 mm, followed closely by Khergam in Navsari district and Umargam in Valsad district, both receiving 67 mm. Other districts such as Botad, Navsari, Tapi, and Surat also reported significant rainfall figures.
