Latest newsGoods Trains Collide in West Bengal's Bankura; No Casualties Reported

Bankura, West Bengal – In the early hours of Sunday, a collision between two goods trains near Onda station resulted in the derailment of 12 wagons. Fortunately, no casualties were reported in the incident, although one of the train drivers sustained minor injuries.

The exact cause of the accident is yet to be determined, and railway officials are currently investigating the incident. Both trains involved were empty goods trains, and the circumstances leading to the collision remain unclear.

The unfortunate incident has disrupted train services in the Adra division, which serves several districts in West Bengal and Jharkhand. Authorities are working diligently to clear the upline and restore normalcy to the rail operations. They aim to minimize the impact on train schedules, including the Purulia Express, which is expected to depart from the affected section.

This incident comes only a month after a devastating triple train catastrophe in Odisha, where the Bengaluru-Howrah Superfast Express, the Shalimar-Chennai Central Coromandel Express, and a goods train were involved in a tragic collision. The incident, which resulted in a staggering loss of life and infrastructure, claimed at least 275 lives.

The triple train collision occurred near the Bahanaga Bazar station in the Balasore district of Odisha. It unfolded when the Shalimar-Chennai Central Coromandel Express, traveling towards Chennai, derailed after colliding with a goods train on an adjacent track. The impact caused the rear carriage of the Coromandel Express to veer onto a third track. Subsequently, the Bengaluru-Howrah Superfast Express, approaching from the opposite direction on the third track, collided with the derailed coaches of the Coromandel Express.

Railway authorities are now faced with yet another incident, underscoring the need for increased safety measures and stringent protocols. The railway department is expected to conduct a thorough investigation to determine the root causes of these accidents and take appropriate measures to prevent such occurrences in the future.

Efforts are underway to restore normal train operations and rectify the situation promptly. Passengers and the public are urged to exercise caution and patience during this time as authorities work tirelessly to ensure safe and efficient transportation.
