At least four people were injured in a clash between villagers from two bordering districts of Nagaland, Deputy Chief Minister Yanthungo Patton said on Monday.

The clash occurred between residents of Kiphire and Meluri districts, though the exact date of the incident has not been specified. Patton, who also holds the Home portfolio, assured that the situation is now under control and urged residents to maintain peace and harmony.

“Deeply disturbed by the recent reports of violence, reportedly among a few villages under Kiphire and Meluri districts. Such incidents not only disrupt peace but also harm the bonds that hold our communities together,” Patton said in a post on X (formerly Twitter).

Investigation Underway

The reason behind the violence is yet to be determined. The state government has directed the Deputy Commissioners of Kiphire and Meluri to investigate and submit a report through the Commissioner of Nagaland.

“We have already assigned our two district Deputy Commissioners – Kiphire and Meluri – to investigate and submit a report through the Commissioner of Nagaland to the state government,” Patton stated.

Condition of the Injured

Out of the four injured individuals, three sustained minor injuries and have been discharged from the hospital. However, one person with a head injury was transferred to Kohima and is currently undergoing treatment at the Naga Hospital Authority.

“It is very unfortunate that this incident happened, but by the grace of God, the injured patient is out of danger now, as per the doctor’s report,” Patton told reporters after visiting the patient.

Official Visit to Hospital

Patton, along with Advisor for Fire & Emergency Services, Home Guards & Civil Defence and Pungro-Kiphire MLA S Kiusumew Yimkhiung, and Advisor for New & Renewable Energy, NSDMA and Meluri MLA Z Nyusietho Nyuthe, visited the injured patient at the hospital.

Other officials present included Nagaland DGP Rupin Sharma, Home Commissioner Vyasan R, and Deputy Commissioner of Meluri Mhathung Tsanglao.
