In a tragic turn of events, at least four people lost their lives, and two others, including the driver, remain missing after their vehicle plunged into a river in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kishtwar district. The incident occurred in the Paddar area when the vehicle skidded off the road, rolled down a hill, and fell into the river. A rescue operation is currently underway, and authorities are working to locate the missing individuals.
The police have not yet identified the vehicle involved in the accident. The local community, along with emergency teams, has been working tirelessly to locate the two missing passengers. Udhampur Member of Parliament and Union Minister Jitendra Singh expressed his deep sorrow over the tragic loss of lives. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), he stated, “Saddened to learn just now that 4 of the passengers travelling in the vehicle have been found dead on the spot. Two other persons, including the driver, are not traced as yet. My sincere condolences to the bereaved families.”
Minister Singh also shared that he immediately contacted Kishtwar Deputy Commissioner Rajesh Kumar Shavan after receiving the news of the accident. He confirmed that rescue teams had been activated and that he was receiving regular updates from the officials involved.
The accident in Kishtwar follows closely on the heels of another devastating incident in Bandipora district. Early Saturday, an Army vehicle skidded off the road due to inclement weather and poor visibility conditions, falling into a deep gorge near the Wular Viewpoint. The tragic accident claimed the lives of four soldiers, while several others were injured. The Indian Army’s Chinar Corps confirmed the deaths and praised local Kashmiri citizens for their swift assistance in evacuating the injured soldiers for medical care.
The Chinar Corps expressed gratitude towards the citizens of Kashmir for providing immediate help to the injured soldiers, ensuring their timely evacuation. In an update shared on X, the Corps further stated, “Injured soldiers were promptly evacuated for medical care with assistance from Kashmiri locals, for which we express gratitude towards the citizens in providing immediate succour.” However, the toll later rose when another soldier succumbed to injuries during evacuation, bringing the total fatalities in the Bandipora incident to four.
Both accidents underscore the ongoing challenges posed by the region’s difficult terrain and unpredictable weather conditions. The authorities continue their efforts to locate the missing individuals and provide support to the affected families.
