In a shocking incident inside the Chandigarh Family Court, a former police officer allegedly shot and killed his son-in-law, a senior Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer. The victim, Harpreet Singh, was an IRS officer in the irrigation department.
The incident occurred during a mediation session between the families of the victim and the accused, Malwinder Singh Sidhu, a suspended assistant inspector general of Punjab police. The mediation was part of an ongoing domestic dispute between the two families.
According to witnesses, Sidhu requested to use the washroom during the session, and Singh offered to guide him. The two men left the mediation room, and moments later, five gunshots were heard. Sidhu reportedly fired the shots, two of which struck Singh, causing him to collapse on the ground.
Video footage from the court complex shows Singh lying on the floor, with bystanders and legal professionals urgently calling for medical assistance. The situation quickly escalated as lawyers detained Sidhu and locked him in a room until police arrived.
Emergency responders and court personnel attempted to provide first aid to Singh, but he was pronounced dead at the hospital shortly thereafter.
The accused, Malwinder Singh Sidhu, has been taken into custody by the police. Investigations are underway to determine the motive behind the shooting and the full circumstances leading to the tragic event.
This incident has sent shockwaves through the legal and bureaucratic communities, raising concerns about security within judicial premises and the escalation of domestic disputes to violent confrontations.
