Another arrest has been made in connection with the shooting incident outside Bollywood actor Salman Khan’s Mumbai residence. Mohammad Rafiq Chaudhary, identified as the fifth accused, was apprehended from Rajasthan.
Police sources revealed that Chaudhary not only had direct involvement in the firing incident but also allegedly financed the operation. This arrest brings the total number of individuals detained in connection with the incident to five.
The case took a tragic turn when one of the accused, Anuj Thapan, passed away while in police custody. Thapan’s family has taken legal action by filing a petition in the Bombay High Court, seeking a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the circumstances surrounding his death.
Contrary to the police’s explanation that Thapan died by suicide during detention, his mother, Rita Devi, has alleged foul play. She contends that her son was subjected to physical assault and torture while under police custody. The petition, scheduled for a hearing in the High Court, seeks the transfer of the case to the CBI.
Four individuals, including Thapan, Sonu Bishnoi, and alleged shooters Sagar Pal and Vicky Gupta, have been arrested in connection with the firing incident. Thapan, who was accused of procuring and supplying firearms and ammunition used in the shooting, was arrested on April 26 from Punjab along with Sonu Bishnoi.
