EAM Jaishankar to Visit Netherlands, Denmark, and Germany Amid Rising Tensions with Pakistan

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar is scheduled to undertake an official visit to the Netherlands, Denmark, and Germany from May 19 to 24. This will be his first foreign trip since the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22, which claimed the lives of 26 civilians, and the subsequent Operation Sindoor — India’s military strikes targeting terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan-controlled territories.

According to sources familiar with the matter, Jaishankar’s visit aims to inform key European strategic partners about India’s firm stance on terrorism and ongoing tensions with Pakistan. The trip offers an important platform for dialogue on bilateral relations, as well as regional and global issues of mutual interest.

The External Affairs Ministry confirmed that Jaishankar will hold high-level meetings with the leadership of the three countries, emphasizing cooperation across a broad spectrum of areas. The Netherlands was originally part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s European itinerary planned for this month, but the visit was postponed due to the heightened conflict with Pakistan.

Germany continues to strengthen its position as a crucial strategic partner for India in Europe, with bilateral trade exceeding 30 billion US dollars. Meanwhile, the Netherlands and Denmark have expressed strong interest in collaborating with India on green transition initiatives, highlighting shared goals in sustainable development.

Jaishankar’s diplomatic engagement underscores India’s commitment to maintaining robust partnerships in Europe, even as it navigates complex security challenges in South Asia.
