“Election Commission Initiates Legal Action Against Siddaramaiah’s Son for Comments About PM Modi, HM Amit Shah”

The Election Commission (EC) has taken action against Yathindra, son of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, for making derogatory remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Yathindra’s comments, made at a Congress gathering, sparked controversy and led to a complaint filed by EC officials.

The complaint, filed by election office flying squad wing sector officer Gundu Rao on April 1, called for appropriate action against Yathindra for violating the model code of conduct (MCC). Hanur police inspector Shashi Kumar confirmed the filing of the complaint at the Hanur police station in Chamarajanagara district.

Yathindra’s remarks included calling Amit Shah a ‘goonda’ (hooligan) and ‘rowdy,’ alleging criminal activities and murder charges against him in Gujarat. These comments were made during a political event in Chamarajanagara district on March 28. The BJP had filed a complaint with the EC following Yathindra’s statements.

In response to the EC’s complaint, Yathindra defended his remarks, stating that he had simply quoted existing charges against Amit Shah without exaggeration. Mysuru district Congress committee president R Murthy supported Yathindra, stating that his comments were based on previous police records.

However, BJP district unit president CS Niranjana Kumar criticized Yathindra’s comments as a personal attack on a Union Minister. He pointed out that the courts had already exonerated Amit Shah from the mentioned cases, questioning the validity of calling him a ‘goonda.’

The case highlights the ongoing political tensions and verbal sparring between parties in the lead-up to elections. It also underscores the sensitivity of language used in political discourse, especially when directed towards high-ranking officials.
