Maharashtra’s caretaker Chief Minister, Eknath Shinde, was rushed to a hospital in Thane on Tuesday following a deterioration in his health. Sources confirmed that Shinde, who has been battling a throat infection and fever since last week, was advised by doctors to undergo a thorough medical examination.
Despite concerns over his health, Shinde appeared upbeat when he exited the hospital, responding to media queries by saying, “badhiya hai [all good].”
Shinde’s health issue first surfaced after he returned to his native village in Satara district last Friday. While initial speculation suggested he was unhappy with the developments surrounding the formation of the new government, the Shiv Sena leader clarified that the trip was for rest after a grueling election campaign. During his stay in Satara, Shinde developed a high fever, prompting his return to the hospital in Thane for further evaluation.
In the midst of his health concerns, preparations for the swearing-in ceremony of the new Mahayuti government in Maharashtra continue. The event is scheduled for December 5 at Mumbai’s Azad Maidan, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi expected to attend. BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis is widely regarded as the frontrunner for the chief minister’s position, although the Mahayuti alliance has yet to officially announce the candidate.
BJP leader Girish Mahajan, who met with Shinde on Monday, reassured the public that there were no signs of discontent within the Mahayuti alliance. “I came here to meet Eknath Shinde, who has not been well for the past few days. There is no displeasure. We sat together for an hour and had a conversation. He also discussed preparations for December 5, and I shared some thoughts as well,” Mahajan said. He emphasized the unity within the alliance, stating that the leadership was focused on delivering for the people of Maharashtra.
As Maharashtra gears up for the formation of the new government, all eyes are on the swearing-in ceremony, and Shinde’s health will continue to be closely monitored in the coming days.
