Rescue Efforts Intensify for Nine Trapped Coal Miners in Assam Flooding Incident

Rescue operations are in full swing to save nine coal miners trapped underground following a sudden flooding incident in a mine in Assam’s Dima Hasao region on Monday.

Search teams, including military divers and rescue personnel, have been deployed to the site, working tirelessly to reach the trapped individuals. According to reports, three bodies have been spotted inside the mine, while efforts continue to rescue the remaining workers.

The incident occurred when water inundated the mine’s shaft, trapping the workers inside. Locals reported that at least 27 miners were in the pit when the flooding began. Many managed to escape, but nine remained trapped as the gushing waters overwhelmed the mining operations.

Kaushik Rai, a state government minister, stated that more than 100 rescuers, including soldiers, divers, and medical teams, have been mobilized for the operation. The Indian military confirmed the swift deployment of troops, including divers equipped with scuba gear, sappers, and other support staff, to aid in the rescue efforts.

Visuals from the site, released by the military, depict divers being lowered into the mine’s deep shaft using a metal bucket as they navigate the challenging conditions to locate the miners.

This tragic incident highlights the persistent risks associated with coal mining in the region, where unregulated operations often put workers in perilous situations. As rescue efforts continue, authorities and local communities await updates, hoping for a successful outcome in saving the trapped miners.
