In a dramatic incident in Himachal Pradesh, a truck skidded off an icy road in Manali, plunging into the Solang Valley as heavy snowfall continued to wreak havoc in the region. The chilling moment was captured in a video, which shows the truck losing control on the snow-covered road before it tumbles into the valley below. The driver, demonstrating quick reflexes, jumped out of the moving vehicle just moments before it plunged into the gorge. However, the driver slipped while attempting to stop the truck and narrowly avoided a tragic fate.
The incident occurred amidst a series of snowstorms that have turned Himachal Pradesh into a picturesque winter landscape, but also created significant hazards for locals and tourists. As snowfall intensified, the truck’s driver, along with witnesses to the event, were left shaken by the terrifying accident. Thankfully, the driver was unharmed, but the vehicle was lost to the valley below.
Meanwhile, a fresh spell of snowfall this week added to the difficulties in the region, leading to over 1,000 vehicles getting stranded between Solang and the Atal Tunnel. The Kullu police launched a massive rescue operation, successfully evacuating approximately 5,000 tourists who were trapped in their vehicles. With roads becoming increasingly treacherous, authorities worked tirelessly to guide tourists and vehicles to safer locations.
The rescue efforts were particularly critical, as the snow continued to accumulate, blocking many routes and severely disrupting local infrastructure. Over 200 roads, including three major national highways, have been closed across Himachal Pradesh due to the snow. Of these closures, 123 are in Shimla, 36 in Lahaul and Spiti, and 25 in Kullu. In addition to the blocked roads, the state is facing power outages, with over 170 transformers out of service, further complicating the situation for residents.
The ongoing winter conditions in Himachal Pradesh have highlighted the challenges posed by heavy snowfall in the region. As authorities continue their rescue operations, the people of Himachal Pradesh are coping with the severe impact on infrastructure while braving the challenges of navigating through snow-laden roads.
