A video capturing a moment of tension during Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar’s campaign in Savanur, Haveri, has gone viral. The incident, involving a municipal member putting his arm around Shivakumar’s shoulders, led to a swift reaction from the Congress leader.
As DK Shivakumar exited his SUV amidst enthusiastic Congress supporters, he encountered Allauddin Maniar, a municipal member, who attempted to take a picture with his arm around Shivakumar. This gesture was met with a strong reaction from Shivakumar, who promptly pushed the man away.
The video shows Shivakumar visibly annoyed by the incident and gesturing for the man to step back. Security personnel intervened, and the man was pushed away, while Shivakumar continued his campaign.
Shivakumar was in Haveri to campaign for party candidate Vinoda Asooti ahead of the ongoing Lok Sabha elections in Karnataka. The state has 28 Lok Sabha seats, with polling taking place in two phases.
In the 2019 elections, the BJP won 25 out of 28 seats in Karnataka, while the Congress and JD-S alliance managed only one seat each. This time, the BJP and JD-S are contesting separately.
The JD-S is grappling with allegations against Prajwal Revanna, HD Deve Gowda’s grandson, leading to his suspension from the party. DK Shivakumar has been accused by HD Kumaraswamy of orchestrating the circulation of videos related to the allegations.
