Diljit Dosanjh Dedicates Guwahati Concert to Former PM Manmohan Singh

Punjabi superstar Diljit Dosanjh, renowned for his live performances worldwide, recently dedicated his Guwahati concert to the late former Prime Minister of India, Dr. Manmohan Singh. The tribute, shared by Diljit on his Instagram on Sunday, highlighted the late PM’s dignified and graceful persona, earning praise for his decorum and humility.

In a heartfelt video, Diljit spoke about Manmohan Singh’s simplicity and grace, stressing how the former PM always maintained a sophisticated and composed manner, never resorting to uncivil responses, even in the politically charged environment of his career. Diljit referred to Singh’s unwavering composure, stating, “He led a very simple life. He never used to answer back or talk ill, which is quite impossible in a profession like politics.”

The superstar further honored Manmohan Singh’s legacy by quoting one of the late PM’s famous couplets, “Hazaro’n jawabo’n se meri khamoshi acchi, na jaane kitne sawalo ki aabru dhak leti hai” (My silence is better than thousands of answers, for it shields the dignity of countless questions). Diljit urged his audience, particularly the youth, to learn the valuable lessons of patience and dignity exemplified by the former PM.

In the Instagram post, Diljit dedicated the concert to Manmohan Singh with the caption, “Today’s Concert is dedicated to Dr. Manmohan Singh Ji. DIL-LUMINATI TOUR Year 24.”

The news of Manmohan Singh’s passing on December 26 after a prolonged illness deeply saddened the nation, including members of the film fraternity, who paid their tributes to the former PM for his significant contributions to India’s development and global stature.

In addition to his tribute to Singh, Diljit recently addressed a controversy surrounding the use of “Panjab” instead of “Punjab” in one of his social media posts. The issue had sparked debate among some followers, accusing Diljit of a “conspiracy.” In response, Diljit humorously defended his choice, clarifying the nuances of language and the flexibility of spelling, particularly for those whose first language is not English. He wrote on X (formerly Twitter), “If I mistakenly didn’t put up India’s flag after writing ‘Panjab’ in a tweet then it becomes a conspiracy. It will remain ‘Punjab.’ Panj Aab – 5 Rivers.”

Diljit has had a remarkable rise in the entertainment industry, both in music and acting. His recent success includes performing at the prestigious Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival in April 2023, making him the first Indian performer to achieve this feat. Fellow Punjabi artist AP Dhillon followed suit in 2024, further cementing Punjabi music’s growing influence on the global stage.

With a combination of hit films and live performances, Diljit continues to be one of the most influential figures in the entertainment industry, not just in India, but internationally.
