In a recent incident, three coaches of the Taj Express train caught fire in southeast Delhi’s Sarita Vihar. Fortunately, no injuries were reported as passengers managed to evacuate the affected coaches promptly.
The Delhi Fire Services (DFS) received a distress call at 4.24 pm, following which eight fire tenders were deployed to extinguish the flames. By 5.43 pm, the fire was successfully contained, averting a potential disaster.
Initially, there was confusion regarding the number of coaches affected, with DFS officials mentioning four coaches initially. However, it was later confirmed that three coaches—D3, D4, and partially D2—sustained damage in the fire.
Upon receiving a PCR call at 4.40 pm, police rushed to the scene near Apollo Hospital. Subsequently, the train was halted, and investigations into the cause of the fire began.
Despite the damage to the coaches, passengers escaped unharmed. Quick action and cooperation from the passengers allowed them to safely exit the train and move to other compartments.
