Confusion Over Extended Winter Break in Delhi Schools Amid Harsh Weather Conditions

Delhi’s educational landscape encountered confusion and rapid changes regarding the extension of winter vacations in schools within the national capital. The Directorate of Education’s initial announcement on Saturday evening about the extension of winter holidays till January 10 was swiftly withdrawn later the same night, leaving both school administrations and parents puzzled.

Initially, the Directorate of Education had communicated the extension of winter vacations for all government and private schools in Delhi due to the prevailing cold weather conditions. However, a Delhi government official later clarified that there had been an error in issuing the order.

“The order extending the winter break was incorrectly issued. The order has been withdrawn immediately. A decision on the same will be taken tomorrow morning,” stated the official.

This sudden reversal in the decision came as the vacation was initially set to conclude on Saturday, with classes scheduled to resume on Monday. The uncertainty arising from the initial extension followed by its abrupt withdrawal has caused confusion among school staff, students, and parents regarding the resumption of regular classes.

The capital city is currently battling extreme cold waves, prompting the India Meteorological Department to issue a yellow alert, warning of dense fog, light rainfall, and a further drop in temperatures over the next few days.

This development underscores the challenges faced by educational authorities in balancing academic schedules with harsh weather conditions. As Delhi grapples with freezing temperatures and weather advisories, the uncertainty regarding school operations amidst these challenging conditions remains a concern for stakeholders within the education sector.
