A Delhi man, identified as Tushar, was arrested for blackmailing over 500 women across various platforms, including Bumble, WhatsApp, and Snapchat. The accused used intimate photos and videos he obtained under the pretense of building friendships to extort money from his victims, threatening to leak their explicit content if they failed to comply with his demands.
Tushar, whose activities were discovered by the West Delhi Cyber Police Station, had reportedly collected intimate content from women he interacted with, initially for personal amusement. However, over time, his actions evolved into a systematic scheme of blackmail and extortion. Police said the suspect used these visuals to coerce women into sending money. If a victim refused, Tushar would threaten to post their intimate content online or sell it on the dark web.
The first case that led to his arrest came to light when a second-year Delhi University student filed a complaint with the Cyber Police Station on December 13, 2024. According to her account, she met Tushar on Bumble in January 2024. He posed as a US-based model and initiated a friendship with her, eventually transitioning to private conversations on WhatsApp and Snapchat. Over time, the victim shared personal photos and videos with Tushar, believing the relationship was genuine. However, when she asked to meet him in person, he repeatedly made excuses. Soon after, he sent her a video she had shared with him and demanded money, threatening to make the content public if she didn’t comply.
Feeling pressured, the student made an initial payment, citing financial difficulties as a student. However, Tushar’s relentless demands pushed her to reach out to her family, leading to the filing of the complaint.
Following the complaint, the Cyber Police Station launched a comprehensive investigation. A specialized team led by ACP Arvind Yadav traced Tushar’s digital footprint through a combination of technical analysis and intelligence work. A raid was conducted in Shakarpur, resulting in his arrest.
During the raid, police recovered a mobile phone with incriminating data, a virtual international mobile number used in his operations, and 13 credit cards from various banks. They also found over 60 WhatsApp conversations with women from Delhi and nearby areas. Preliminary investigations revealed that at least four other women had been blackmailed by Tushar.
The police further discovered two bank accounts linked to the accused, with one containing records of payments made by his victims. Investigations into the second account are still ongoing.
Tushar’s arrest highlights a growing trend of digital extortion where personal content is weaponized to exploit victims. Police have urged women to be cautious while sharing personal material online and emphasized the importance of reporting such incidents to authorities to prevent further harm.
The investigation into Tushar’s activities is continuing, with authorities working to identify other potential victims and uncover the full extent of his criminal network.
