Delhi Education Minister Atishi has taken decisive action to cancel transfer orders for 5,000 teachers, citing concerns about potential corruption. The directive, issued on Thursday, instructs Chief Secretary Naresh Kumar to revoke the transfer orders that were implemented without her authorization.
The controversy began with a circular titled “Online requests for transfer of teaching staff of the Directorate of Education,” which mandated that teachers who had served in the same school for over ten years apply for a transfer. If they failed to do so, the Directorate of Education (DoE) would reassign them to any school. This circular, issued on June 11, contradicted Minister Atishi’s July 1st order that no teacher should be transferred solely based on their tenure in a particular school.
Addressing the media, Minister Atishi expressed her concerns about the situation. “Contrary to my orders, a transfer order was issued on July 2, affecting nearly 5,000 teachers. I have directed the chief secretary to withdraw this order immediately,” she stated. The minister also highlighted her suspicion of corruption, adding, “I have asked for an inquiry to determine if there has been any malpractice or corruption involved in this matter.”
The swift cancellation of these transfer orders underscores the Delhi government’s commitment to addressing potential irregularities and ensuring that decisions affecting teachers are made transparently and fairly. Minister Atishi’s actions aim to protect the interests of teachers and uphold the integrity of the education system in Delhi.
