A Delhi court has scheduled June 19 for the hearing of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s bail plea in the money laundering case linked to an alleged excise scam, as reported by PTI.
Additional Sessions Judge Mukesh Kumar adjourned the case after the Excise Department requested more time to file a reply. Additionally, the judge will hear an application filed by Kejriwal requesting permission for his spouse to participate in the medical board proceedings via video conference to assess his health condition and treatment needs. The jail authorities have been directed to provide a response regarding this matter.
“The accused has filed an application seeking directions to allow his wife to join the medical board. Before issuing any order, I find it appropriate to request a reply from the concerned jail superintendent. The application will be considered tomorrow,” the judge stated, according to PTI.
During the proceedings, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) urged the court to adjourn the matter until June 25. However, the judge emphasized considering the convenience of the accused for the next hearing date.
“The accused is in judicial custody, not in your custody. If he requires any convenience, you do not have a role to play. I will consider his convenience, not yours,” the judge remarked, as reported by PTI.
Furthermore, the judge directed the Tihar jail authorities to ensure Kejriwal’s medical requirements are met while in judicial custody. Earlier, Kejriwal’s plea for interim bail on medical grounds was rejected by a Delhi court on June 5, and his judicial custody has been extended until June 19.
