CRPF Inspector Killed in Terrorist Attack in Udhampur, Jammu and Kashmir

In a tragic incident, a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) inspector was killed in a terrorist attack on Monday in Udhampur district of Jammu and Kashmir. The attack occurred when a joint patrol party of the CRPF and the Special Operations Group (SOG) of the Jammu and Kashmir Police was ambushed by terrorists in the remote Dudu area of Basantgarh at around 3:30 PM.

According to officials, Inspector Kuldeep Singh of the CRPF’s 187th battalion sustained gunshot wounds during the attack. Despite being rushed to the hospital, Singh succumbed to his injuries. The terrorists fled the scene amidst strong retaliation by the joint patrol team. Following the attack, reinforcements have been dispatched to the area, and a search operation is underway to apprehend and neutralize the attackers.

The attack occurs at a crucial time as Jammu and Kashmir is preparing for its first assembly election as a Union Territory. The region, which last held an assembly election in 2014, is set to conduct polling in three phases on September 18, 25, and October 1. The counting of votes is scheduled for October 4.

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has assured that it will provide comprehensive security to the Election Commission of India to ensure the smooth conduct of the elections. Currently, approximately 70 battalions (about 70,000 personnel) of central paramilitary forces are stationed in Jammu and Kashmir to address insurgency and law and order issues. Additionally, the Border Security Force (BSF) and the army are responsible for maintaining vigil at the border.
