A tragic accident at a popular eatery in Kaloor claimed the life of a worker and left three others critically injured after a cooking steamer exploded on Thursday, officials said.
The deceased, identified as Sumith, a native of West Bengal, sustained severe head injuries and was declared dead upon arrival at the hospital, according to police reports. The injured—Ali, Lulu, and Kiran—were rushed to a private hospital, where they are currently in critical condition.
The explosion occurred at i’Deli Cafe, located on the ground floor of the Jawaharlal Nehru International Stadium in Kaloor. Fire and Rescue Services officials received an alert at 4:23 pm, initially suspecting a gas cylinder explosion. However, upon arrival, they found that the cooking steamer had burst due to excessive pressure.
Fire personnel quickly brought the situation under control, preventing further damage. Fortunately, a few customers who were seated outside the cafe managed to escape unhurt.
Authorities are investigating the exact cause of the explosion and whether safety protocols were followed at the establishment.
