Cold Wave Hits Hyderabad, North India Experiences Freezing Temperatures

Cold wave conditions have gripped several parts of India, with temperatures dropping significantly in regions such as Telangana, Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Punjab, Odisha, and Delhi. On Monday, many areas in Telangana, including Hyderabad, saw temperatures plunge into the single digits, triggering cold wave conditions that affected the daily life of residents.

The cold front also brought freezing temperatures to parts of Himachal Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir. In Himachal Pradesh, the tribal district of Lahaul and Spiti, particularly Tabo, recorded the coldest night with a chilling low of minus 10.6°C. Meanwhile, in Jammu & Kashmir’s Srinagar, temperatures dropped to minus 3.4°C, intensifying the winter conditions.

Other regions, including Delhi, have also been feeling the brunt of the cold wave, with the Air Quality Index (AQI) deteriorating to the ‘severe’ category. This has prompted local authorities to reimpose Stage 4 of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) to tackle pollution and mitigate health risks due to the extremely poor air quality.

As temperatures continue to fall across the country, authorities have urged people to take necessary precautions against the severe cold, especially in regions experiencing sub-zero temperatures. The cold wave is expected to persist in the coming days, with more areas likely to experience a drop in temperature.

This cold spell has become a significant weather event, drawing attention to the challenges posed by extreme winter conditions in different parts of the country.
