A tragic incident unfolded in Chennai when Karthikeyan, a 38-year-old software engineer, died by suicide at his home. The police reported that he electrocuted himself, and his wife discovered him entangled in a live wire upon her return home.
Karthikeyan, originally from Theni district in Tamil Nadu, had been a dedicated techie for the past 15 years, recently transitioning to a new job. He was under treatment for depression, which has been suggested as a contributing factor to his tragic decision. Reports indicate that he had previously expressed feelings of work-related stress, but this has not been confirmed by his family or the authorities.
At the time of the incident, Karthikeyan was alone at home. His wife, K Jayarani, had left for the Thirunallur temple, approximately 300 km from Chennai, earlier in the week. She had dropped their two children, aged 10 and 8, at her mother’s place before leaving. Upon returning on Thursday night and receiving no response after knocking on the door, she used a spare key to enter the house, only to find Karthikeyan in a distressing state.
A case of unnatural death has been registered, and the police are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding his death. In his suicide note, Karthikeyan left messages for each family member, which authorities hope will provide further insight into his mental state leading up to the tragedy.
This incident highlights the critical importance of mental health awareness and the need for supportive environments, especially in high-pressure professions. The community and Karthikeyan’s family are left to grapple with the devastating impact of this loss.
