The Jammu and Kashmir Police have released photographs of two foreign terrorists involved in a terrorist attack on a workers’ camp in the Ganderbal district that occurred on Sunday, resulting in the deaths of seven individuals and injuries to several others. The images were extracted from CCTV footage recorded inside the camp located in the Gagangir area.
On the evening of the attack, the two assailants entered the workers’ camp and opened fire indiscriminately at the civilians. Among the deceased were six non-local workers employed by APCO Infrastructure and a local doctor. Four other individuals sustained injuries during the attack.
In response to the incident, investigators have already questioned over 40 individuals connected to the workers’ camp. A team from the National Investigation Agency (NIA), led by a senior officer, has also visited the site to gather crucial evidence related to the attack.
The workers targeted in this attack were part of a project undertaken by APCO Infrastructure, which aims to construct a tunnel from Z-Morh to Sonamarg, transforming the Srinagar-Sonamarg road into an all-weather route. Once completed, this project is expected to boost local tourism and create employment opportunities for the region’s youth.
The attack has drawn widespread condemnation from various political figures, including Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Union Roads and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari, and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. Former Chief Ministers Farooq Abdullah, Mehbooba Mufti, and Ghulam Nabi Azad also expressed their outrage over the violence.
