In a significant development, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has uncovered a human trafficking ring involved in sending Indians to Russia and Ukraine under false pretenses, with nearly two dozen individuals believed to have been coerced into participating in Russia’s war effort in Ukraine.
The investigation was launched following reports of a Hyderabad man being duped into joining the conflict in Ukraine and subsequently losing his life. Suspicions arose that many others may have fallen victim to similar schemes promising lucrative job opportunities abroad.
Raids were conducted at over 10 locations across seven cities, including Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Thiruvananthapuram, Ambala, Chandigarh, and Madurai, targeting agents and firms associated with the trafficking operation. Several suspects have been detained for questioning as part of the ongoing investigation.
Preliminary findings indicate that approximately 35 Indians were sent to Russia and Ukraine by these firms, raising concerns about the extent of their involvement in the conflict. While it remains unclear if all individuals were coerced into participating, evidence suggests a pattern of exploitation and deception.
Among those implicated in the CBI’s case is Dubai-based Faisal Khan, also known as Baba, who operates the YouTube channel Baba Vlogs. Khan’s alleged role in luring individuals with promises of lucrative employment opportunities has been highlighted in interviews conducted by media outlets.
Additionally, three other companies, one each from Mumbai, Delhi, and Chandigarh, have been named in the case, with their directors facing accusations of complicity in the trafficking scheme. However, the extent of their collaboration with Khan’s firm remains under investigation.
During the raids, authorities seized incriminating documents, electronic devices, and a substantial amount of cash, indicating the scale of the operation and the financial incentives driving it. The raids underscore the government’s commitment to combatting human trafficking and ensuring the safety and welfare of its citizens abroad.
As the investigation progresses, authorities are urging individuals who may have been victimized by such schemes to come forward and cooperate with law enforcement agencies. The case serves as a stark reminder of the dangers posed by human trafficking networks and the need for robust measures to prevent their exploitation.
