Controversy Erupts as CBI Probe Ordered Against TMC MP Mahua Moitra

BJP MP Nishikant Dubey has stirred controversy by claiming that a CBI probe has been ordered against Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Mahua Moitra in connection with the “cash-for-query” scandal. This development follows allegations made by Dubey, who accused Moitra of accepting bribes in exchange for parliamentary login credentials.

Nishikant Dubey took to social media to announce the CBI inquiry, stating, “On my complaint, Lokpal today ordered a CBI inquiry against accused Mahua Moitra for indulging in corruption at the cost of national security.” Last month, Dubey filed a complaint against Moitra with Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, who subsequently referred the matter to the ethics panel.

Dubey’s complaint revolved around the claim that Moitra had accepted expensive gifts from businessman Darshan Hiranandani in exchange for her parliamentary login credentials. He further alleged that Hiranandani had used Moitra’s credentials to pose questions directly in Parliament, targeting the Adani Group and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

In response to the allegations and the CBI probe, Mahua Moitra vehemently denied any wrongdoing. She took to social media to assert her position, stating that the CBI should first file an FIR in what she referred to as the “Adani coal scam.” She drew attention to concerns related to national security, particularly the involvement of foreign portfolio investors, including those from China and the UAE, in Indian ports and airports. Moitra emphasized that the focus should be on addressing these issues.

As of now, there is no independent verification of Nishikant Dubey’s claim regarding the CBI inquiry against Mahua Moitra.

The controversy surrounding Moitra’s alleged involvement in the “cash-for-query” scandal has been ongoing. Moitra appeared before the ethics panel on November 2 to provide her oral evidence regarding the accusations against her. During the meeting, she left abruptly, citing “unethical” and personal questions posed by the panel’s chairperson, Vinod Sonkar. Moitra accused Sonkar of using unparliamentary language and claimed that the meeting felt like a “proverbial vastraharan” (disrobing).

The ethics panel is set to convene on November 9 to adopt its final report on the matter, marking the latest chapter in a contentious and highly publicized controversy.
