The Calcutta High Court has instructed the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to provide updated reports on their ongoing investigation into an alleged primary school jobs scam in West Bengal. The focus of the investigation is on the recruitment of primary teachers who passed a Teachers’ Eligibility Test (TET) in 2014.
Justice Amrita Sinha, overseeing the case, directed both agencies to present their progress reports at the next hearing scheduled for June 12. The court had previously ordered the ED and CBI to investigate the alleged irregularities in the recruitment process and the money trail associated with the scam.
During the proceedings, the ED presented a forensic report on the voice sample of Sujay Krishna Bhadra, an alleged employee of Leaps and Bounds, a company reportedly linked to Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee. Deputy solicitor general Dhiraj Trivedi, representing the agencies, informed the court about the confiscation of properties worth ₹134.96 crore in connection with the case so far.
Trivedi assured the court that both agencies are working collaboratively to conclude the investigation. However, Justice Sinha raised concerns about the lack of specific details in the ED’s report regarding the forensic analysis of Bhadra’s voice sample and questioned whether a money trail had been identified.
The ED counsel responded by stating that substantial progress has been made in the investigation, although specific details about any money trail were not disclosed during the hearing.
