In a tragic turn of events, Sarvesh Singh, the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) candidate from Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh, passed away a day after the constituency went to polls in the first phase of the general elections. Sarvesh Singh, a seasoned politician with a five-time MLA and one-time MP record, was 72 years old and had been undergoing treatment for an illness at a Delhi hospital.
The news of Sarvesh Singh’s demise was confirmed by UP BJP chief Bhupendra Chaudhary, who stated that Singh had been suffering from throat issues and had recently undergone an operation. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed their condolences, describing Singh’s death as an “irreparable loss” for the BJP.
Sarvesh Singh’s political journey included winning the Moradabad Lok Sabha seat in 2014 but losing to Akhilesh Yadav-led Samajwadi Party’s ST Hasan in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls.
