A shocking incident in Bihar’s Muzaffarpur district has garnered widespread outrage as video footage captures police officers disposing of an accident victim’s remains into a canal. The incident came to light when a passerby recorded the distressing scene and shared it, leading to swift actions against the officers involved.
A senior officer from the local police department admitted to the incident but clarified that only the body parts that could not be salvaged were disposed of in the canal. He explained, “It was a very bad accident, and all the body parts could not be retrieved. This is why the police had disposed of them in the canal.”
While acknowledging the inhumanity of the act, the officer further clarified that the salvageable body parts had been sent for a postmortem examination. However, the victim remains unidentified. The body has since been recovered from the canal and is currently stored in the morgue.
Expressing shock at the incident, Rakesh Kumar, Senior Superintendent of Police in Muzaffarpur, announced disciplinary measures against the officers involved. He stated, “This incident is shocking, and we have suspended the driver constable and terminated the contract of two Home Guard jawans on duty.”
The incident has raised questions about the treatment of accident victims and the need for compassion and professionalism in such situations.
