Heavy Rains in Bengaluru Cause Widespread Waterlogging and Traffic Congestion

Bengaluru experienced heavy rainfall on Saturday night, leading to severe waterlogging across major roads and significant traffic congestion in various parts of the city. The downpour inundated the south and east sections of Bengaluru, disrupting daily commutes and stranding vehicles in floodwaters.

The Bommasandra industrial area saw particularly severe traffic jams as waterlogged streets made navigation difficult. Reports highlighted long queues of vehicles, with commuters waiting for over an hour as traffic police worked to clear the roads and mitigate the risk of accidents.

Videos shared on social media showcased the chaotic scene on Kalyan Nagar Service Road, which was heavily flooded following the overnight rains. Community handle Citizens Movement urged residents to avoid waterlogged service roads and underpasses, warning of hazardous travel conditions.

The situation was similarly dire in the Electronics City area, where water accumulated quickly, leading to complaints from residents and commuters. A handle named Karnataka Portfolio called out local political leaders, questioning the effectiveness of infrastructure in the area after just 20 minutes of rain caused flooding at the Electronic City toll.

Bengaluru-Mysuru Road also faced major flooding, resulting in further traffic buildup as the city grappled with the effects of the downpour. According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), the city recorded 10.4 mm of rainfall in just one observatory on Saturday.

As rainwater continued to collect on the streets, traffic police were seen actively working to manage the situation and ensure safety for all commuters. The heavy rains serve as a reminder of the challenges Bengaluru faces with urban flooding, prompting calls for improved infrastructure and drainage systems to better handle such weather events in the future.
