Bengaluru Court Grants Conditional Bail to HD Revanna in Kidnapping Case

In a significant development, a Bengaluru court has granted conditional bail to Janata Dal (Secular) leader HD Revanna in a kidnapping case linked to sexual abuse charges against his son Prajwal Revanna. This decision comes after HD Revanna was sent to judicial custody until May 14 in connection with the case involving the alleged abduction of a woman.

The court’s bail conditions require HD Revanna to furnish a personal bond of ₹5 lakh and cooperate fully with the ongoing investigation. The case stemmed from a complaint filed by the woman’s son, accusing HD Revanna of involvement in the abduction that took place on April 29.

The Karnataka government has formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to look into the matter following a complaint lodged by Nagalakshmi Chowdhary, the chairperson of the State Commission for Women. The JD(S) leadership has also taken action, suspending Prajwal Revanna from the party amidst the scandal.

Prajwal Revanna, who is the grandson of former prime minister HD Deve Gowda, is facing serious allegations of sexually abusing multiple women. The controversy has sparked a political storm, with the ruling Congress and the BJP-JD(S) alliance engaging in heated exchanges over the issue.

Prajwal, who was the joint candidate of the BJP-JD(S) alliance from the Hassan Lok Sabha segment, left the country on April 27, a day after the initial phase of Lok Sabha polls in Karnataka. The arrest of two individuals in connection with the leak and dissemination of explicit videos involving Prajwal Revanna has further intensified the scrutiny on this case.

Chetan and Likith Gowda, both reportedly affiliated with the BJP in Hassan, were arrested by the Karnataka SIT. Their alleged involvement in circulating explicit videos related to Prajwal Revanna, just ahead of the Lok Sabha polls, has added complexity to the ongoing investigation.
