Latest newsBengaluru Begins Day with Overcast Skies as IMD Forecasts More Rain and Gusty Winds

Bengaluru woke up to rain-soaked streets and overcast skies on Friday morning, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting continued rainfall throughout the day. The showers, accompanied by gusty winds of 40–50 kmph, are expected to provide relief from the recent dry spell. However, authorities have urged residents to remain cautious due to potential waterlogging and traffic disruptions.

Widespread Rain Across Karnataka

Rainfall is expected to persist over both Bengaluru Urban and Rural districts through the evening, extending to neighbouring districts such as Ramanagara, Kolar, and Chamarajanagar.

In South Interior Karnataka, widespread light to moderate rain with isolated heavy showers is likely in Hassan, Chikkamagaluru, Shivamogga, Davangere, and Kodagu. Gusty winds of 40–50 kmph may accompany the thundershowers, affecting regions like Mysuru, Mandya, and Tumakuru.

In North Interior Karnataka, districts including Belagavi, Dharwad, and Haveri are expected to witness light to moderate rainfall with isolated heavy showers and possible hailstorms. Wind gusts in some areas could peak between 50–60 kmph. Other districts such as Koppal, Bagalkote, Vijayapura, Kalaburagi, Bidar, and Gadag have also been placed under similar weather alerts.

Along Coastal Karnataka, districts like Udupi and Dakshina Kannada will see light to moderate rainfall, with some areas experiencing heavier downpours. Wind speeds may range between 30–40 kmph, while Uttara Kannada is expected to witness widespread but moderate showers.

Infrastructure Challenges in Bengaluru

On Thursday, a brief 30-minute spell of heavy rain was enough to cause chaos in Bengaluru, leading to severe waterlogging in several areas. Tavarekere Main Road was among the worst affected, with viral videos on social media showing residents wading through knee-deep water, once again highlighting the city’s fragile drainage infrastructure.

With more rain and strong winds expected throughout the day, officials have urged commuters to plan their travel accordingly and take precautions against potential flooding and traffic congestion.
