Bengaluru Woman Allegedly Slapped by Auto Driver Over Cancelled Ride, Video Goes Viral

A Bengaluru woman was allegedly harassed and slapped by an Ola auto driver after she cancelled her ride, sparking outrage on social media. The incident, which was caught on video and shared widely, shows the driver arguing aggressively with the woman, attempting to snatch her phone during the confrontation. The driver has since been arrested by police.

The video, which has gone viral on social media, captures the heated exchange between the driver and the woman. The altercation began when the woman cancelled one of the two autos she and her friend had booked via the ride-hailing app, Ola, during peak hours. When the driver from the cancelled booking arrived and found out his ride was cancelled, he allegedly followed the women, shouting and hurling abuses at them.

In the video, the irate driver is heard yelling, “Tera baap deta hain kya gas ke paise? (Does your father pay for the gas?)” When the woman threatens to file a police complaint, the driver, undeterred, challenges her to do so, showing no fear of consequences. The woman then asks why he slapped her, prompting him to attempt to snatch her phone, insisting that she get into his auto to go to the police station. The video ends with the driver eventually leaving the scene.

The woman took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to demand immediate action against the driver. “Yesterday in Bangalore (Bengaluru), my friend and I booked two autos on Ola due to peak hours. I arrived first, so she cancelled hers. The other auto driver followed us, furious. Despite explaining the situation, he started shouting and hurling abuse,” she wrote.

She further added that the driver verbally assaulted them, questioning whether the auto belonged to her father and making derogatory comments. She began recording the incident, which enraged the driver even more. “When I mentioned reporting him, he challenged me, showing no fear of consequences,” she alleged.

Responding to her post, Alok Kumar, the Additional Director General of Police for Traffic and Road Safety, condemned the incident, saying, “Such behaviour is unacceptable. A few people like him give the auto drivers’ community a bad name. Have informed the concerned to take appropriate action.”
