The shooter responsible for the murder of former minister and NCP leader Baba Siddique, Shiv Kumar Gautam, revealed chilling details about his actions following the fatal attack. Gautam, who had changed his shirt shortly after the shooting, confessed to the police that he waited for 30 minutes outside Lilavati Hospital in Mumbai to confirm whether Siddique had survived the attack.
On the night of October 12, at 9:11 pm, Siddique, 66, was shot twice in the chest while in Mumbai’s Bandra area. Despite being rushed to Lilavati Hospital, Siddique succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival.
Gautam’s actions on the night of the murder are startling. He said that after firing the shots, he stood in the crowd outside the hospital to observe the situation. He only left when he learned that Siddique’s condition was critical and he was unlikely to survive.
Initially, Gautam had planned to meet his accomplices—Dharmaraj Kashyap and Gurmail Singh—at the Ujjain railway station, where a member of the Bishnoi gang was supposed to transport them to Vaishno Devi. However, this plan fell apart when Kashyap and Singh were caught by the police before they could meet.
Gautam’s subsequent movements have been tracked by the police through his network of associates. After the shooting, he traveled from Bandra to Kurla, then took a local train to Thane and later fled to Pune. In Pune, Gautam discarded his mobile phone and stayed for approximately a week before traveling to Uttar Pradesh’s Jhansi and Lucknow.
The breakthrough in Gautam’s arrest came from a series of suspicious activities involving his four friends, who were seen purchasing various sizes of clothing and planning to meet Gautam in a remote forest area. These individuals were also in constant contact with Gautam through internet calls on mobile phones purchased in Lucknow. Their actions led the Mumbai Crime Branch and the Uttar Pradesh Police Special Task Force (STF) to track down Gautam.
On Sunday, Gautam was apprehended near the Nepal border along with his associates—Anurag Kashyap, Gyan Prakash Tripathi, Akash Srivastava, and Akhilendra Pratap Singh. The police believe the four men were assisting Gautam in his attempt to flee the country.
The investigation continues as authorities piece together the details of this high-profile murder and the subsequent attempts to evade capture. Gautam and his associates remain in custody as the police delve deeper into the conspiracy behind Baba Siddique’s tragic death.
