As the city gears up for its grand Deepotsav, the Sri Ram Janmabhoomi Tirath Kshetra Trust has announced that it will not use Chinese decorative items during this year’s Diwali celebrations. This decision aims to promote local craftsmanship and support the ‘Vocal for Local’ initiative, aligning with the government’s push for self-reliance under the Atmanirbhar Bharat campaign.
This year marks the eighth edition of the Deepotsav and the first since the consecration ceremony at the Ram Temple in January. The temple premises will be adorned with traditional diyas and other indigenous decorative items, emphasizing the importance of using local materials.
Ayodhya Commissioner Gaurav Dayal stated, “We want to use items that are indigenous and local. The focus is on promoting local artisans, artists, and eco-friendly materials.” He clarified that while the trust has prohibited the use of Chinese items, there is no directive for the public against using such products, leaving the choice to individual discretion.
Security measures for the event are also being intensified, with around 10,000 personnel deployed to maintain order during the celebrations. Nearly half of these security personnel will be in plain clothes to ensure a safe environment for attendees.
The Deepotsav is scheduled for Wednesday, a day before Diwali, with plans to set a Guinness World Record for the most number of diyas lit simultaneously. In addition to the lighting of diyas, the festivities will feature special performances, including a Ram Leela.
Notably, renowned fashion designer Manish Malhotra has been commissioned to design special outfits for Ram Lalla and his brothers, merging high fashion with spirituality for the festive occasion.
