Former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has officially vacated his residence at 6, Flagstaff Road, marking a significant transition for the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader. On Friday, Kejriwal and his family moved to the official bungalow of AAP member Ashok Mittal, located at 5 Ferozeshah Road near Mandi House.
Kejriwal was seen leaving his former home in a car accompanied by his parents, wife, and two children. The relocation comes after Kejriwal announced he would resign as chief minister last month, stating that he would return to the position only after receiving a “certificate of honesty” from the people of Delhi in the upcoming Assembly elections scheduled for February 2025.
The decision to vacate his official residence aligns with Kejriwal’s earlier commitment to do so during the auspicious Navratri period, which began Thursday. He had emphasized this intention as part of a broader message of accountability to the electorate.
The BJP has leveled allegations of corruption against Kejriwal, specifically related to the excise policy and the reconstruction of the Chief Minister’s bungalow. These accusations have intensified following Kejriwal’s release from Tihar Jail on September 13, where he spent five months in connection with the excise policy case before being granted bail by the Supreme Court.
Ashok Mittal, whose bungalow Kejriwal has moved into, is a Rajya Sabha MP from Punjab and was allocated the central Delhi address for his official residence.
As the political landscape in Delhi shifts with the upcoming elections, Kejriwal’s relocation signals a potential strategy to reconnect with voters amidst ongoing controversies.
