A significant fire broke out at the Acropolis Mall in Kolkata on Friday, leading to a swift response from multiple fire engines to combat the blaze. Reports indicate that the fire originated on the third floor of the shopping mall, situated in the southern part of Kolkata, necessitating the evacuation of the premises.
Ten fire tenders were deployed to the scene as soon as the fire was reported around 12.15 pm, according to news agency PTI. Thankfully, there have been no reports of injuries so far, and firefighting operations are currently underway. Firefighters equipped with oxygen masks have entered the building to tackle the flames and contain the situation.
The incident has caused considerable smoke, affecting the surrounding area and prompting the Kolkata Traffic Police to regulate traffic movement near the mall. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined, although some sources suggest it may have started in the mall’s food court.
This fire at Acropolis Mall follows another recent incident in Kolkata, where a fire broke out at a restaurant in the Park Street area, causing alarm among locals. Fortunately, no casualties were reported in that incident, but it highlighted the importance of fire safety measures in public spaces.
Fire and Emergency Services Minister Sujit Bose mentioned that an investigation will be conducted to determine the cause of both fires and assess compliance with safety regulations. The authorities will also look into the structural aspects of the affected buildings to ensure adequate safety measures moving forward.
