A devastating collision between a bus and a truck in Assam’s Golaghat district has resulted in a tragic loss of life, leaving at least 12 people dead and 25 others injured, as confirmed by the local authorities on Wednesday.
The fatal incident occurred in the Balijan area near Dergaon, Golaghat district, with the collision shattering the early morning tranquility. Superintendent of Police Rajen Singh detailed the harrowing event, stating that the accident took place around 5 am.
“The bus, en route to Tilinga Mandir from the Kamarbandha area of Golaghat, collided head-on with a truck traveling from Jorhat’s direction,” explained Singh.
Upon impact, the collision claimed the lives of 10 individuals, whose bodies were retrieved from the crash site and subsequently transported to Dergaon CHC. Additionally, 27 injured passengers received immediate medical attention, with 25 of them referred to Jorhat Medical College & Hospital. Sadly, two individuals among the injured succumbed to their injuries during treatment.
The immediate aftermath saw a swift response from locals who rushed to the scene, actively engaging in rescue operations alongside the authorities.
Confirming the tragic toll, Superintendent Rajen Singh emphasized that 12 lives were lost in the tragic accident. He assured that investigations are underway, and legal actions will follow suit in adherence to the law.
