Delhi’s cabinet ministers have reached out to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, seeking immediate attention to the water scarcity gripping the national capital. Environment Minister Gopal Rai highlighted the urgency of the situation during a press briefing on Monday. The concern comes amidst colleague Atishi’s ongoing hunger strike, now in its fourth day, with her health deteriorating.
A meeting was convened at the hunger strike site in Jangpura’s Bhogal, where ministers deliberated on the escalating crisis and resolved to draft a letter addressed to the prime minister. The letter emphasizes the critical need for a resolution to the water issue, emphasizing that the current situation demands urgent intervention.
Minister Rai further emphasized the importance of data transparency, inviting Delhi Lt Governor VK Saxena and all concerned officials to witness firsthand the readings of flow meters in areas like Wazirabad and Bawana. This move aims to provide clarity on water levels and the impact of reduced water flow, particularly from Haryana.
The minister underscored Delhi’s right to its allocated share of water, expressing concern over diminishing water resources. In a show of solidarity, a candlelight march is planned for the evening to support Ms. Atishi’s hunger strike and draw attention to the pressing water crisis faced by the residents of Delhi.
